Statement Write a list of your favorite sad books. Pick one out that has a very tragic or sad character, it should be one you remember really well, and have probably read more than once. Write down the things that you remember that character saying, or the things that you think they would say, or what you would say if you were them, and read it out loud. Imagine that the things that they said are things that you actually said, or would say if you had thought of it first. Imagine that the things that happen to them in the book are really happening to you, and what they say is what you would say, and the way they feel is the way that you feel, and if someone were to ask you to describe how you felt, you would just hand them this book.
You might also make a drawing as that character, not of them, but as them. You could either draw what you see, as them, or what they (or you) say. When you draw it, try to think and make decisions as them, which shouldn’t be too hard because you already feel like them anyway.
