WORD. WORLD.
A Literary Reading Series
New writingpoetry, prose and writings in betweenby the 2007 graduates of the MFA in Writing program at CCA.
“Word. World.” takes a relationship that has been, until this moment, between the writer, her words on the page, and a community of writers and makes it a relationship between a writer, his words, and an audience. The result is four evenings of superb readings. The writers and their writings are diverse and surprising in scope; their delivery is lively and the camaraderie among the writers infects the public. Each reading satisfies and feeds the soul: In short, the readings are fun.
For the last two years these women and men have focused on understanding their art and their own process as makers. Earning an MFA in Writing is not an ending; it is a beginning. These readings mark their steps over the threshold out into the world as writers.
The Anthology takes selections from the writer’s thesis: a book-length grouping of poetry, prose, playwritingor some other mixing of words in a genre not yet named. We work with a designer from the CCA MFA in Design, a collaboration that is itself an art practice. This year the designer is alumni Edward “Moose” Maravilla; his work has been a lovely discovery. Please join us in celebrating the launch of this year’s Anthology during the Opening Reception of this year’s Graduate Exhibition.
