Statement Craft is traditionally thought of as the making of things by hand, and is usually concerned with the connections that join parts together. Well-fitting joints are often considered well crafted. Extending this definition of craft to architecture describes a building as crafted when the various parts of the building are carefully assembled with joints that often explicitly describe they way they work. In the digital time that we are a part of however, this definition of craft is no longer complete, as the tools we are using are less manual and more machine-based. A more contemporary definition and understanding of craft is needed.
Digital craft is a way of working that results in projects that are more than the sum of their parts. A well-crafted project is one that reveals deeper meanings in the things we do and the spaces we inhabit. Architectural craft introduces a kind of poetry to the built environment and challenges us to experience space from new perspectives of physical and emotional response.
